FEBRUARY 27 – GOLD BUTTE NATIONAL MONUMENT / FALLING MAN

Gold Butte National Monument covers nearly 300,000 acres of remote and rugged desert landscape in southeastern Nevada, where dramatically chiseled red sandstone, twisting canyons, and tree-clad mountains punctuate desolate stretches of the Mojave Desert. The brightly hued sandstone provides a stunning canvas for the area’s famously beautiful rock art.

One such area, the Falling Man rock art site is a fascinating petroglyph gallery that has seen many visitors over the years. Walking into the Falling Man panel, people might not notice petroglyphs on crags and boulders along the trail. The trail is only about 0.3 miles, but the last bit of the route to the Falling Man petroglyph requires an easy scramble among the rocky sandstone crags. Off the beaten path, the farther you go and the more you look, the more petroglyphs you find. What’s not to like!!

High clearance vehicles area strongly recommended for this adventure and we will depart the Public Lands Information Center at 8:00 am.
